Caterpillar Web Promotion Refines Database

East Peoria, Illinois: The Work Tools Division of Caterpillar has launched a dual-language interactive Web-based promotion designed to update and enhance the customer databases of its North American dealers.

The world's leading manufacturer of heavy equipment and work tools, Caterpillar has teamed with e-business expert Plexus M/2 of Miami, Florida and the direct marketing firm Infinity Direct to create and execute "Fuel Card Giveaway." Designed to efficiently cleanse and grow the Works Tools Division's client database, the promotion is part of an ongoing customer relationship building strategy.

Phase one of Fuel Card Giveaway promotion consisted of a colorful direct mailing to members of a composite database composed of 30,000-plus persons working at CAT Work Tools clients throughout the United States and Canada. Each direct mail piece carried a unique "Fuel Code" and promised a free "$10 Fuel Card" with an invitation to register on the company's new Micro-site, created by Plexus. Once at the Micro-site, the customer enters his or her given Code to receive their $10 Fuel Card.

Caterpillar has allied with Arco, BP/Amoco, CITCO, EXXON, Mobil, Conoco, Sunoco, Tesoro, and Speedway to honor the promotion's $10 free fuel offering.
